NORFOLK GARDENS

In 1953 Bernard Duke of Norfolk gave Littlehampton a plot of Land for sport and recreation which is now the Norfolk Gardens site. There was a small green near the Globe pub in Duke Street that was closing so building could take place. This mainly consisted of British Rail workers, Southdown Bus workers, Firemen and Policemen. They moved to the new sight in 1953 and the Norfolk Bowls Club was born! It was an all male club; there was a small club house to which a porter was added at a later date. Bernard Duke of Norfolk was asked if he would be Patron of the club which was accepted and now the current Duke holds this post.

In the 1970's A Ladies section was formed but was limited to wives of current members. The club was only open from May to September until 1997 when we were given a grant by the National Lottery and the Sports Foundation to build a new club house, to achieve this we had to become a mixed club.

Short Mat Bowls was then introduced and we now operate all year round and have social events throughout the year. We have our own portable skittle alley; we cater for a Maximum of 120 Players and are Affiliated to Sussex County and Bowls England. Norfolk Gardens now also consists of a Pitch and Putt Course, Crazy Golf, and Tennis courts.
