OVERVIEW
When the outdoor season closes at the end of September, the club lays down in the clubhouse two short mats which enable members to continue bowling during the long winter months. The club’s annual subscription allows all members to participate in what is known as Short Mat Bowling.
You can participate in matches against other clubs – friendlies as well as more formal league matches and these can be seen listed under “Fixture List”. Most matches, both friendlies and league, are usually for mixed teams of both men and ladies;
The league is the “West Sussex Short Mat Bowls League” and is structured into various divisions that can be seen under League & KO Cup. The club has two teams; the senior team is called the “Lions” that play in County Wide Division 2 and our junior team, called the “Cubs” play in South West Division 1. There is also a Knock-out Cup competition within the league.
During the short mat season the club arranges five matches against long mat clubs. “Long mat” is a venue that is like the outdoor greens (usually six rinks) but played indoors under cover on artificial surfaces. See Long Mat Bowling.
